Mum's the word
It's official, Cyd's beginning the transition to being an Aussie. She spontaneously called me "mum" today for the first time. Usually she addresses me as "moooooooom", with fully Americanized intonation. When Cyd was in the hospital the nurses all thought that her accent was the cutest thing, they would keep coming by and make her say different words. It's wierd being so obviously a foreigner in a country that speaks the same language you do. I've come to the conclusion that an Aussie accent is the most difficult accent to imitate. I watched an episode of Alias the other day and I think that one of the characters was trying for a Aussie accent, that or South African, couldn't tell, it was that bad. British accents are easy and there are heaps of Aussie actors who can do an excellent American or British accent, but how many the other way around?

HEAPS?
you're catching on too.
"mum" is ok. even kind of cute.
I help each english at this place where the teachers are japanese but have lived in australia. Great teachers, but the last class was 2 1/2 hours of phonics, and of course I didn't say anything, but I was reminded of many a conversation we had in China with Mike over the dinner table.
Such as the way we say "o".
Don't get me started.
I think you should really start worrying when the vegemite comes out. Man, nasty stuff! Mum is cute, reminds me of 'Peter and Jane.'
Well, I LIKE vegemite...
Yeah, vegemite isn't bad, though I have to be in the mood for it. I like it on toast with bacon and eggs on top. It's also good in stews. But no, Cyd hasn't developed an addiction to vegemite yet, she actually won't try the stuff. The other day though, Cyd had a friend over for a play date (a little boy named Dylan who she thinks she's going to marry when she grows up) who would only eat vegemite sandwiches for his lunch. At least the stuff is supposed to be healthy.
By the way, her first choice for marriage was Keithy. Cyd was heartbroken when I explained that she couldn't marry anyone she was related to, which included Keith, Ryan, etc... Her sorrowful reply was, "but then who will I marry?" Ha!
